A 19-year-old employee of Walmart was found dead in the bakery of the retail chain in Canada.
The employee was identified as Gursimran Kaur.
Ms. Kaur had recently moved to Canada from the U.K. with her mother, seeking better prospects.
Gursimran’s body was discovered by her mother in the bakery oven in the Walmart store in Canada’s Halifax while the store was still open.
Both the mother and her daughter were well-known among the closely-knit Sikh community.
Gursimran Kaur had been working at the Mumford Road Walmart for the last two years.
The recovery of Gursimran Kaur’s body from the bakery oven of the store has been confirmed by the Halifax Regional Police.
In a release, the Halifax Regional Police stated,
“We urge the public to be mindful of sharing speculative information on social media.”
Gursimran Kaur’s identity was made public with the consent of her mother.
The tragic incident was also confirmed by the Maritime Sikh Society.
The Halifax Regional Police stated that on Saturday at 9:30 pm, they received a call of an unnatural death at the Mumford Road Walmart location.
Who was Gursimran Kaur?
Gursimran Kaur and her mother were originally from India and had moved to Canada from the U.K.
She is survived by her father and brother, who live in India.
A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated for Gursimran Kaur, and it stated that she had come to Canada with big dreams.
The campaign has already collected $194,449 as of Tuesday, surpassing its goal of raising $50,000.
On the day when the tragedy unfolded, Gursimran Kaur’s mother was trying to locate her since she had not seen her for a long time.
Her colleagues also did not seriously think something was amiss since the store was big and reasoned that she must be helping some customers.
Later, her charred body was discovered by her mother in the store’s bakery.
Since Gursimran Kaur’s father and brother are in India, the community is trying to get them to Canada as soon as possible.
The community website read,
“This family’s sufferings are unimaginable and indescribable. They need your support to get through this horrific time.”
The Maritime Sikh Society is also conducting psychological counseling for the family and others affected by this sudden loss.
