Freak Three-Way Accident Involving 3 Buses Kills 2

Two people have died in a freak accident involving three buses along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway. The crash happened today at the 197 km peg and involved buses from Tombs Motorways, Rimbi, and Mbokodo.

Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the tragic news:

“Two people lost their lives in this accident. Details are still sketchy, and police are yet to get in touch with the deceased’s next of kin,” he said.

According to Tell Zimbabwe, the incident began when a Tombs Motorways bus struck a stray donkey. The driver managed to control the bus and pulled off the road to seek assistance.

Chain of Events Leads to Fatal Crash

While the Tombs bus was stationary, a Mbokodo bus also pulled over to assist. Shortly after, a Rimbi bus collided with the stationary Tombs Motorways bus’s trailer, resulting in the fatalities.

Inspector Dhewa confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the accident.

Donkeys: A Persistent Danger

This incident comes just days after another donkey-related accident claimed two lives. On Thursday, a bus travelling near Makhado on the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Highway struck a donkey before colliding with an oncoming Toyota Fortuner.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi provided details of the earlier incident:

“Two people were killed while one person was injured when an Irizar Mthethi bus with two passengers hit a donkey. Subsequently, the bus veered off the road, leading to a head-on collision with a Toyota Fortuner vehicle with one passenger on board.”

The Makhado accident occurred near a railway crossing at around 12.30 am. Pictures from the scene revealed the Toyota Fortuner was severely damaged, with only the wheels indicating it was once a vehicle.

Police have issued warnings to drivers. Commissioner Nyathi advised,

“Motorists must exercise great caution on the roads during the Christmas holidays and avoid night driving.”
