Sharvari Wagh is one of the newest innings that Bollywood has to its credit, with her brilliant acting skills and vibrant screen presence. She was born on June 14th, 1997 in Mumbai, to a family that has strong roots in both the construction world and the world of politics. Her father, Shailesh Wagh, is a builder, while her mother, Namrata Wagh, is an architect. Not to be outdone, adding a layer of political legacy to her background is her maternal grandfather, Manohar Joshi former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and 13th Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
Early Life and Education
Growing up in Mumbai, which is basically the hub of the film industry in India, naturally bothered her into the world of entertainment. She took her elementary training from The Dadar Parsee Youths Assembly High School, a place known to produce well-rounded students. Later on, she pursued her Bachelor of Science at D.G. Ruparel College of Arts, Science, and Commerce.
Early Career: Modeling and Behind the Camera
Sharvari’s journey into the world of glamour started when she was 16, after entering and winning the Clean and Clear Fresh Face contest in 2013. She went on to work as a model, quickly gaining recognition through various TV commercials. But her ambition wasn’t to just model; rather, Sharvari wanted to learn every aspect of filmmaking. She has worked as an assistant director for several popular films, including Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, Bajirao Mastani, and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety.
Not content to learn on the job, she also completed a nine-month acting course at Jeff Goldberg’s Studio and attended weekend theatre workshops to hone her craft.
Acting Breakthrough and Filmography
Sharvari kickstarted her acting career with the 2020 Amazon Prime series of The Forgotten Army – Azaadi Ke Liye, where she played the lead role of Maya opposite Sunny Kaushal. That just about marked her arrival on the acting scene, and her acting skills were found to be in order.
Her big Bollywood debut came in 2021 with Bunty Aur Babli 2, where she was cast in ensembles with the heavyweights of the industry Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan, and Siddhant Chaturvedi. While the film did not click at the box office, Sharvari did manage to evoke critical acclaim. She further received the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut and the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female for the same film. These trophies sealed her as a star in the making.
Sharvari let loose her full range in 2024 with the release of Munjya, a comedy-horror film about a monster created out of Maharashtrian folklore. The role of Bela was taut with energy and enthusiasm. Her film turned out to be a sleeper hit. She went on to expand her portfolio with roles in Maharaj, a Netflix period drama; and Vedaa, an action-packed movie costarring John Abraham. Her role of Vedaa Berwa is lauded for being intense.
Looking ahead, Sharvari is all set to star in the upcoming spy thriller Alpha in the YRF Spy Universe with Alia Bhatt-just another giant leap for this rising star.
