A seven year old Thai boy tragically lost his life after crossing a road while flying a kite in the Isaan province of Buriram yesterday, December 15.
The fatal accident occurred on a rural road in the Nong Ki district of Buriram and was reported to the Nong Ki Police Station. Police officers and rescuers from the Nong Ki Foundation arrived at the scene to find the body of the boy, identified only as P, beneath the rear right wheel of a tractor.
When approaching the scene of the incident, Manat said he noticed two children playing with a kite near a sugarcane plantation. Assuming the children saw his vehicle, he continued driving until he suddenly heard a scream from behind.
Manat explained that when he stopped to check, he discovered P’s lifeless body. He suspected the boy ran into the tractor while focused on his kite in the sky.
P’s grandmother, Muan, revealed to Amarin TV that her grandson had a passion for kite flying. He lost his favourite kite the day before the accident and asked his mother to buy him a new one. Heartbroken, she said, “This time, he lost his life.”
P’s mother, 26 year old Siranee, said she and her husband were at work when they received the devastating news from Muan.
She added that the family tried to ensure his safety by instructing him to play with the kite on the nearby plantation, close to their home, and never expected such a tragedy to occur.
In a related incident, a 12 year old Thai boy fell to his death from the rooftop of a shopping mall in the central province of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya on December 2. The boy reportedly played alone in his community before going to the mall, where the fatal fall took place.
