Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Suriya Jungrungreangkit announced that the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) successfully managed the recent flooding in the northern region, ensuring the safety and convenience of passengers.

Train services on the northern route, including Chiang Mai station, have resumed normal operations as of yesterday evening, October 8.

The flooding had previously disrupted train services but water levels have now receded sufficiently to allow safe travel. Suriya emphasised that railway officials across the country must remain vigilant, continuously monitoring water levels and being prepared to respond promptly to any emergencies. This includes ensuring that passengers can travel safely and comfortably.

SRT Governor Veeris Amrapal added that the cleaning and preparation of the station facilities were expedited, focusing particularly on safety. Engineering teams have been deployed to inspect and secure the railway tracks and signal systems, especially in areas previously affected by flooding. The inspections and necessary repairs have been completed, allowing the full resumption of services from 6pm yesterday.

Veeris highlighted that during the period when Chiang Mai station was closed due to flooding, the SRT provided alternative transportation for passengers, including both Thai nationals and international tourists. Buses were arranged to shuttle passengers safely between Nakhon Lampang, Lamphun, and Chiang Mai stations.

Additionally, a mobile kitchen was set up at Nakhon Lampang station to provide food and beverages, ensuring that staff, employees, and passengers were well taken care of during the disruption. This effort helped to maintain a positive experience for all passengers despite the challenging circumstances.

The SRT remains committed to supporting safe travel for all passengers, ensuring that everyone reaches their destinations securely and comfortably, reported KhaoSod.

In related news, Veeris pledged to transform Thailand into a leading railway service hub in the ASEAN region during his four-year tenure. Ready to begin his duties as the 20th governor, Veeris recognises the significance of his role and the SRT’s mission as the nation’s largest state-owned transportation enterprise.
