Sharad Purnima is also known as Kushmanda Purnima and is a very important festival of Hindus. It specially falls on the full moon day of the month Ashwin and is said to be the holiest and most special out of all the full moons of the calendar year. On this day, it is believed that Mother Lakshmi was born, and hence this day is also her birth anniversary. It is also known as “Kojagiri Purnima.” It is on this night that the Mother Lakshmi bestows prosperity to those who stay awake and worship her.
Sharad Purnima will be observed on 16th October 2024. On that day, the moon is full of its sixteen arts and its rays are capable of giving nectarous quality. According to religious principles, kheer kept in moonlight on that night attain the flow of nectar in it which brings forth health prosperity.
According to the puja method, on Sharad Purnima day, after cleaning the house, Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi are worshipped. Kheer is made and kept in the moonlight at night and in the morning it is consumed as prasad. Also, the Raasleela of Lord Krishna and Gopis is also of importance on this day, which is called “Raas Purnima”.
On the night of Sharad Purnima, the moon is at its closest distance to the earth, because of which its rays have more effect. From a scientific point of view, the rays of the moon have a special type of energy, whose positive effect is said to be on the body and mind. According to Ayurveda, such kheer, which is kept in the rays of the moon, improves the digestive system and achieves mental balance.
