Sharad Purnima, which is also known as the full moon of Ashwin month, is indeed the most significant full moon of the year. The full moon day is the day when Goddess Lakshmi’s appearance and birth anniversary coincide. So, in the year 2024, it falls on October 16. It is said that Mother Lakshmi roams under the light of the moon and showers her blessings upon her devotees on this day.
This is called ‘Kojagiri Purnima’. It means “what is awake?” That is, this day is the time for Mother Lakshmi to give particular attention to the devotees immersed in devotion. It is said that those who wake up with the moonlight and sing bhajans on this day, have the special blessings of Mother Lakshmi.
The moon is full of 16 arts on this day and its rays transmit nectar. Then if people keep kheer in the light of moon not only have health benefits but rather it is a way of getting the blessings of Mother Lakshmi.
Sharad Purnima is not important religiously but scientifically too. Rays of the moon reflect positive energy to our body which keeps it fit. It has been given importance in Ayurveda where eating kheer while sitting under rays of the moon enhances digestion and keeps mental balance.
