International Rural Women’s Day falls on every October 15. The day is a declaration to be mindful of the work done by the rural women and their awareness.
Since its establishment in 1945, the United Nations has been striving to keep pace with international peace and friendship among the different countries around the world. The UN has undertaken various humanitarian initiatives and set rules to protect nature and the environment. One of the most salient initiatives of the UN has been relating to the well-being and status of women, particularly in rural areas.
On 15 October of that year at the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China it was proposed to empower and recognize the rural women that the 15th of October be celebrated as International Rural Women’s Day, as World Food Day is being celebrated on 16th October.
On December 18, 2007, through a resolution 62/136 of the United Nations General Assembly, International Rural Women’s Day was declared to be observed on October 15 every year. Ever since, the day is celebrated in many countries around the world as one to appreciate and respect strength and hard work that rural women exhibit and contribute to society.
