A Burmese man faked a seizure and death at a police station to avoid detention after he was arrested for sexually assaulting a Thai woman at a market in the central province of Chachoengsao.

An off-duty police officer, Sakchai, and witnesses at Bang Wua Temple Market on Bangna-Trat Road in the Bang Pakong district helped the 23 year old Thai woman who was physically assaulted by Burmese men. Sakchai managed to apprehend two of the Burmese nationals, while another escaped from the scene.

Sakchai told Channel 7 that he was working his part-time job as a lottery seller at the market when he noticed the Burmese men pulling the victim by the arms, so he and another man intervened in the incident.

Initially, Sakchai thought the woman and one of the Burmese men were in a relationship and were arguing. However, the victim later informed him that she confronted the Burmese men for sexually assaulting her, which made them angry, and they attempted to attack her.

The victim told the media that she was standing and browsing products at a stall within the market when one of the Burmese men, later identified as 26 year old Sai Wana Soe, bumped into her from behind. She initially ignored him, thinking it was an accident.

However, Sai Wana Soe became emboldened and rubbed his private parts against her. The victim was certain this was sexual assault, so she turned around and scolded Sai Wana Soe and his friends, who then fled the scene.

Fake symptoms

The victim said she did not let them get away and followed them to further confront them. Sai Wana Soe and another friend became angry and attempted to physically assault her but the incident was interrupted in time.

Sai Wana Soe and his friend, 23 year old Win Rae, were taken to Bang Pakong Police Station for questioning. Win Rae insisted on his innocence and claimed that he warned his friends to stop but they did not listen. The officers released Win Rae and were preparing to detain Sai Wana Soe when he began to have what appeared to be a seizure.

Sai Wana Soe later lost consciousness and stopped breathing, so police called a rescue team to the station to administer first aid but eventually discovered that he was only pretending to avoid going to jail.

Sai Wana Soe continued his act, faking seizures and losing consciousness for nearly an hour, prompting police to send him to a hospital for a medical examination, which confirmed that he was fine.

Sai Wana Soe is now in custody at the police station and has been charged with committing an indecent act. The penalty is imprisonment of up to 10 years, a fine of up to 200,000 baht, or both.
