A Thai woman is seeking justice for her husband after a foreign woman hit him with her car on a road in the Thalang district of Phuket on Tuesday, October 15, and fled the scene, leaving him with injuries and 3,100 baht in cash.

The victim’s wife shared details of the accident with the news Facebook page, Phuket Times, today, October 18, hoping the foreign driver would step forward and offer proper treatment to her husband. She revealed that he is in a stable condition but remains in hospital.

According to the wife, the incident took place at about 7.40am at a U-turn in the Pa Klok sub-district, although the name of the road was not mentioned. The woman shared a video of the accident with the media, which showed the foreign woman making a swift U-turn and crashing into the victim’s motorcycle.

The victim was seen rolling in the middle of the road and came to rest in the left lane. Fortunately, no vehicle was following him immediately when he fell to the ground. The foreigner parked her grey sedan in the right lane and ran to check on the victim before the video ended at that point.

The victim’s wife told the media that the woman did not stay to see her husband’s condition. She left 3,100 baht in cash at the scene and told her husband that her child was in the car and that she was in a hurry before leaving the scene. The wife said…

“What she (the foreign woman) did is wrong. She should discuss with us how she would take responsibility for this accident. She disappeared, and we have had no contact with her. I have already reported the accident to the police.”

Money

The wife added that her family was struggling financially because her injured husband could not go to work. His motorcycle was also damaged in the accident. She wants proper accountability from the foreign driver.

In the comments section, Thai netizens condemned the foreign woman for her reckless driving and inaction, while others shared their experiences of being involved in road accidents with foreigners in Phuket.

One woman shared that two foreigners crashed their motorcycle into her car and fled the scene. She chased after them and when she caught up with one of the foreigners, he handed her 1,000 baht in cash. She refused the money and called her insurance representative to the scene.

The woman revealed that the cost to fix her car was over 20,000 baht, not the 1,000 baht that the foreigner had given. She then demanded the car fix cost and 10,000 baht extra from the foreigners for wasting her time. She added that she viewed their actions as an insult to Thai people, suggesting that money could resolve every issue.

Other netizens called on the police and relevant officials to tighten their measures regarding foreign motorists in Thailand, as they often fail to obtain driving licences and disregard traffic laws.
