United Nations Day falls on every October 24th and marks the anniversary of the coming into force of the UN Charter in 1945. In fact, some schools even hold beauty pageants like “Mr. and Miss United Nations.” This is a big thing for the kids! They come in dressed in their respective country’s national costumes and it is like there is a fashion show going on.

In 1945, representatives from 51 countries came up to draft a charter in San Francisco.
As they signed the charter on October 24, they were sure to create a cause for celebration that day. All of these countries looked at one another and said, “Let’s do something big together!”
