Sunset Blvd. and Romeo + Juliet added some major heft to Broadway’s autumn box office last week, with the ecstatically reviewed Blvd. grossing $1,211,699 even with press comps during its opening week, and R+J, selling out its eight previews at Circle in the Square, taking $1,056,775.
R+J, starring starring Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler, opens Thursday, October 24.
In all, the 35 Broadway shows on the boards during the week ending October 20 took in $34,689,137, a bump of 1% over the previous week and 23% over last year at this time. Attendance was 282,356, about 5% better than the previous week and 26% over last season.

Figures for some other recent arrivals include:
- Left on Tenth, the Julianna Margulies-Peter Gallagher rom-com at the James Earl Jones, grossed $599,543, with 68% of seats filled. Opening night is October 23;
- A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical began previews at Studio 54, filling 84% of seats and grossing $637,466 for seven previews. Opening night is November 11;
- Maybe Happy Ending, starring Darren Criss and Helen J Shen, began previews at the Belasco, taking $241,825 for five previews, with attendance at 81% of capacity. Opening is November 12;
- Tammy Faye, the Elton John-Jake Shears musical, had its first preview at the Palace, filling 90% of seats and grossing $167,504. Opening night is November 14.
Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club was up about $69K to $1,123,538, filling 93% of seats at the August Wilson.
Selling out were McNeal, Oh, Mary!, Romeo + Juliet, Stereophonic, The Outsiders, and Wicked, the latter topping the Broadway grosses chart yet again with a take of $2,231,866.
On the lower end of the spectrum, the critically lauded The Hills of California was still seeking an audience, with only 59% of seats filled at the Broadhurst and a gross of $533,453.
Season to date, Broadway, in the 22nd week of the 2024-25 season, has grossed $684,611,123, up about 9% over last year at this time, with total attendance of 5,545,423, up about 8%.
