The rapper was sentenced to three to ten years in prison but only served five years.

In June 2002, he was arrested by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) while attempting to enter the United States through Florida.

He was informed that he would be deported under a law that allowed the removal of foreigners convicted of serious crimes.

After being denied bail, the songwriter spent 17 months in prison and was released on November 7, 2003.

In October 2006, the Department of Homeland Security attempted to deport him again, moving his case to a more conservative court.

Moreover, on May 23, 2008, New York Governor David Paterson gave Slick Rick a full pardon for the attempted murder charges against him.
