Is Elon Musk Really Planning to Buy ABC to Curb ‘Wokeness’ on the Network? Debunking the Viral News

Elon Musk Plans to Acquire ABC to Reduce 'Wokeness' on the Network: Fake Viral News Debunked

A post by a Facebook Page named SpaceX Fanclub on October 18, 2024, detailed how Tesla Chief Elon Musk is planning to acquire ABC with the aim to remove wokeness and he also intends to give the pink slips to the channel’s moderators with immediate effect.

The post has evoked 1.5K comments and 6K reactions. Many users believe that Elon Musk will do whatever the post mentions.

Is Elon Musk Planning to Buy ABC?

However, this is fake news since the Facebook page’s intro clearly states that it is a satirical website, and nothing on the page is real. SpaceX Fanclub’s Facebook post also contained “RATED SATIRE” in the top left.

However, the post has been shared multiple times and amassed many reactions. Many users believed whatever was mentioned in the post with one user commenting,

“Good! Mr. Elon Musk, yes get rid of them.”

Another satirical joke.

The gist of the article which SpaceX Fanclub shared in the comments section revealed that the claim originated from a satirical website, Esspots.

The article stated:

“In a move that has shocked media insiders and sent Twitter into a frenzy, Elon Musk is reportedly considering buying ABC, with one clear mission: to “set things straight.” And in typical Musk fashion, his first order of business would be firing longtime ABC anchor David Muir, the face of World News Tonight. The decision, it seems, stems from Muir’s role in the controversial presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, where Musk claims Muir “crossed the line” with his moderation tactics.”

Elon Musk in a private conversation stated:

“ABC is broken. Journalism is broken. And who better to fix it than me. David Muir is just the beginning. ABC needs a reboot, and I’m ready to hit the reset button.”

Again, Esspots is well known for putting out content that is humorous or satirical in nature, much akin to the content on the SpaceX Fanclub Facebook page.

Esspots’ “About Us” page stated:

“Welcome to the US page of Esspots (A Subsidiary of SpaceXMania.com specializing in Satire and Parody News), your one-stop destination for satirical news and commentary about the United States of America. Our team of writers and editors is dedicated to bringing you the latest and greatest in fake news and absurdity, all with a healthy dose of humor and satire.”

The news has not been shared by any reputable media outlet, which is one more proof that the post is satirical and fake.
