Sai Pallavi, a well-known actress from the South Cinema industry, found herself in the eye of a massive controversy for her comments on the Indian army.
The old interview resurfaced again and netizens are asking for a complete boycott of her films.
What is the controversy? Read on to know more about it.
An old video is making the rounds on the internet in which the actress is saying that she fails to understand the logic of violence.
A translation of the conversation reads,
“People in Pakistan think our army is a terrorist group. But for us, it is them. So, the perspective changes. I don’t understand violence.”
However, the examples she shared to explain her viewpoint angered many netizens.
Sai referred to the Kashmiri Pandit genocide, which was portrayed in ‘The Kashmir Files,’ and she compared it with an example in which a Muslim driver who was transporting cattle was lynched by a violent crowd chanting Jai Shri Ram.
Social Media Reactions To Sai Pallavi’s “Indian Army” Comments
The video has sparked huge outrage, and many have even dubbed the actress as anti-national.
One user wrote on X,
“Historian Sai Pallavi is back! Comparing Kashmiri Hindu genocide to cattle smuggling—brilliant insight, right? And now, she’s cast as Mata Sita? Bollywood’s casting is on fire… but not in a good way! At this rate, they’ll be left with an audience of one: their PR team!”
Another user commented,
“The Pakistani army is a terrorist even for their own citizens… People like Sai Pallavi either fell into a propaganda trap or they themselves are propaganda.”
A third user wrote,
“Indian Army is Violence for you, #SaiPallavi?! The reason you and I are moving freely and safely in our country is due to @BSF_India.”
Still another user wrote,
“Exactly!! So dumb, stupid, and reckless statements from a Medical University student? Is she transitioning into a radical? Time will tell.”
Netizens also rued the fact that Sai Pallavi is playing the role of Seeta in an upcoming Bollywood film “Ramayana”.
Ranbir Kapoor is playing Lord Rama in this film and Kannada superstar Yash will be playing Ravana.
However, there were also some who defended the actress.
They contended that digging up a two-year-old video and selectively playing it shows how desperate a section of society has become.
“Dragging out a 2-year-old video and twisting her words shows how desperate some people are for drama. She is just talking about the perspective of different people. Try learning the facts before jumping to conclusions!”
In what many see as an attempt by the actress to make amends, Sai Pallavi visited the National War Memorial to pay tribute especially to Major Mukund Varadarajan AC (P) and Sepoy Vikram Singh SC (P). Her forthcoming film “Amaran” is an ode to Major Mukund Varadarajan.
