MARTHA Stewart is known as America’s ultimate homemaker, thanks to her long a career as a cook and homeware guru.

Born in 1939, when Andrew Stewart met Martha Stewart he was a law student studying at Yale.
Their romance started after they were set up on a blind date when she was 19, and he was 23.
After graduating Yale, he went into publishing and he is now publisher emeritus at Fieldstone Publishing.
After a whirlwind romance, the young couple married a year later in 1961, when Martha was just 20.
In 1971, the couple moved to Westport, Connecticut, where they began renovating the farmhouse.
This later became the hub of Martha’s hospitality empire, which saw her become American’s the first self-made female billionaire.
Married with kids
Four years after they wed, Andrew and Martha welcomed their only child, Alexis Stewart on September 27, 1965.
Like her famous mom, she has followed in her footsteps into the world of broadcasting.
Alexis is known for her work on the airwaves, and over the years has worked for top radio stations like Sirius Satellite Radio.
The break-up
In 1990, Martha shocked fans when she revealed that her and Andrew were getting divorced.
The celebrity cook opened up about their relationship in her self-titled Netflix documentary – which was released on October 30, 2024.
On there she candidly revealed the the divorce was Andrew’s idea.
“He’s the one who wanted the divorce. Not I. He was throwing me away,” Martha revealed.
“I was 40 years old. I was gorgeous. I was a desirous woman, but he was treating me like a castaway.
Yeah (I had an affair) but I don’t think Andy ever knew about that.

“He treated me really badly, and, in return, I guess I treated him badly.”
Cheating revelations
Further revelations emerged from the Netflix documentary.
America’s homemaker shocked fans when she admitted that she cheated on her ex-husband, during their three decades together.
As part of the doc, Martha is seen giving advice to younger women who have been betrayed, advising them to “escape from their marriages”.
A producer then interjected with a home, and said: “Didn’t you have an affair early on?”

To which Martha replied: “Yeah but I don’t think Andy ever knew about that.”
However, in the documentary Martha claimed that Andrew had also been unfaithful during their marriage.
“I didn’t go run off with people. He was running off with people. I always said I was a swan and like all swans, they are monogamous,” she continued.
“And I thought monogamy was admirable. I did. I thought it was admirable. But it turned out that it didn’t save a marriage.”
Martha alleged her husband was having an affair with Robyn Fairclough, who worked for her catering business.
“Robyn worked for me and she lost her apartment or something and I said, ‘Oh you could move into the barn on the lower two acres.’ We had a little apartment down there,” she said.
“And when I was traveling, Andy started up with her. It was like I put out a snack for Andy.”
Neither Andrew or Robyn have confirmed the alleged affair.

Moving on
After her divorce, Martha briefly dated Oscar-winning Welsh actor Sir Anthony Hopkins.
However, there was thing she couldn’t get past – his cannibal character in Silence of the Lambs.
“I was going to invite him up to Maine; I have this beautiful home in Maine… but then I reconsidered because I saw that movie again,” she told Howard Stern.
“Do you want someone eating your brain while you are sitting in your beautiful dining room in Maine?”
She said she “couldn’t get past the Lecter thing.”
Martha then was in a long-term on/off romance with software architect Charles Simonyi for 15 years from 1993 to 2008.
Despite her brief spell in prison for insider trading in 2004, Martha was has continued to grow her cooking empire.
