WATCH: FlexUTD, Manchester United Broadcaster, Responds After Experiencing ‘Awful’ Racist Abuse on Camera

FlexUTD, a Manchester United broadcaster, responded after experiencing "awful" racist abuse on camera

Manchester United content creator, YouTuber, and digital presenter, FlexUTD a.k.a. Flex Alexander is a familiar face across the online English football culture.

He had previously worked with another popular fan channel, The United Stand, before starting his own brand, United View.

FlexUTD was recording a post-match analysis outside Old Trafford after the 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Sunday when he was rudely interrupted by a woman and a fellow United supporter.

After giving a quick shoutout to someone, she went off-frame before launching a racist diatribe against the YouTuber.

The YouTuber shared the video and is drawing widespread criticism and has sparked online outrage.

United defender Harry Maguire has expressed solidarity with FlexUTD, while online sleuths claim that they have identified the racial abuser.

FlexUTD was live streaming from outside Old Trafford, Manchester United’s home ground, when a woman appeared from his right and called him ‘n*‘.

Internet sleuths claim that the woman is Alex Sutton, and a screenshot of the woman was also shared on social media.

FlexUTD Receives Support From Former Players

After releasing the video, Flex stressed the importance of standing up against all forms of racial abuse. He also thanked his 230,000 followers on X for supporting him. Besides Maguire, former Red Devils’ coach Benni McCarthy has also come out in support of FlexUTD.

Harry Maguire wrote,

‘Disgraceful. Hope you’re okay @FlexUtd we are all united together,’

United coach Benni McCarthy said,

‘That was absolutely unnecessary and you shouldn’t have to deal with such behavior. Stay strong bro and behind you all the way.’

Standing Up To Racial Abuse

Flex stated in his video,

“The solidarity shown by every single one of you… that has been amazing. When you are black and this does happen to you, male or female, it takes a lot out of you, man. I’m tired. But at the same time, you don’t stop. 2024, as you saw by the reaction, I was stunned. And I’m not stunned racism exists. I’m thick-skinned, every black person knows, and every person who isn’t racist knows racism exists.”

He added,

“But just at how overtly racist the incident was. You feel blindsided – they’re one of you at the start – obviously, the individual isn’t with the views that they have – but they come across as one of you, singing United ones, lure you in thinking it’s just someone having a good time, and then you get caught blindsided with that.”
