ESPN’s Shams Charania appeared on Get Up and shared that Popovich suffered a health issue before the Spurs‘ home game versus the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday.
Charania revealed that Popovich needed “medical attention” and that “a great level of concern” surrounds the situation as he will be away from the sidelines indefinitely.
“I’m told that it was a health issue, and it was a serious health issue that the Spurs dealt with and Gregg Popovich dealt with over the weekend,” Charania said.
“It was a situation on Saturday night pregame that Gregg Popovich needed medical attention in San Antonio.
“It is still uncertain when he’s going to make it back on the floor, on the sidelines for this team.
“There is a great level of concern around the situation for the Spurs, for Gregg Popovich.”
Spurs assistant Mitch Johnson is serving as the interim head coach during Popovich’s absence.
Johnson spoke about the icon before Monday’s contest versus the Los Angeles Clippers.
“He’s not feeling well. This has happened before. I think everybody’s just always got to be ready for the next man up,” Johnson said.
“Sometimes people get sick or don’t feel well, or things come up in life.
“He’s just not feeling well.”
Johnson did reveal that Popovich told him that “he’s in good spirits.”
The Spurs won the Saturday game against the Timberwolves by a score of 113-103.
But they were defeated on Monday, losing 113-104 to the Clippers squad.
