COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Two opposing ballot measures could pass in Colorado Springs. One would ban local sales, question 2D and the other question 300 would allow them.
Some city officials say Colorado Springs could never have recreational marijuana if both ballot measures pass.
“They showed exactly how they feel about recreational marijuana in the city of Colorado Springs,” said Lynette Crow-Iverson, chair of the pro team for the Colorado Springs City Council.
So far, 53% of voters say yes to election question 2D. It would amend the Colorado Springs charter to ban the sale of retail marijuana in the city. Ballot Number 300 would allow existing medical marijuana licensees to apply to see retail or recreational marijuana. It also passes, with 65% of the vote in.
According to officials with the city, Dee replaces question three hundred because 2D is a charter amendment. City officials said in part:
“If any provision of Ballot Question 300 directly conflicts with § 15-130 of the charter, that provision cannot be implemented. The City will review the language of the ballot question language to determine if any provision needs to be implemented.”
Crow-Iverson says she believes the initiative would conflict with the charter amendment she introduced to pass into law.
“It didn’t work two years ago either if you remember, the citizens keep speaking up and saying the same thing and so this just put it to rest,” Crow-Iverson said.
Supporters of Prop 300 also express confidence. A spokesperson tells us in part:
“We know those in municipal government will stand by voters’ clearly expressed intent to approve recreational marijuana, and we look forward to working with city leaders in the coming months to create a responsible regulatory framework.”
