A serious shooting incident involving a local administrative organisation member’s son raised alarm in a village in Songkhla. The police are currently investigating potential family disputes and village conflicts as motives behind the attack, which left the victim severely injured.

A coordinated effort by local police, including Sirikoson Prabgree, head of Khuan Niang Police Station, and Dusit Promsin, head of the Songkhla Provincial Police Investigation Division, is underway.

They, along with a team of investigators, are meticulously gathering evidence from a cattle shed near the victim’s residence in Baan Nong Pling, located in Ratphum subdistrict, Khuan Niang district, Songkhla province. This follows an ambush that occurred yesterday, November 6, targeting 32 year old Nattapong.

The victim, Nattapong, was ambushed in his cattle shed by an unidentified assailant. He sustained serious injuries after being shot with a shotgun, with one round striking his back near the left shoulder and eight pellets embedding into his face. Following the attack, he was quickly transported to the hospital for urgent medical care.

An inspection of the crime scene revealed bloodstains on the ground beside a table and chair within the cattle shed, where Nattapong was known to sit. However, investigators did not find any tangible evidence related to the firearm used in the attack. The absence of concrete evidence poses a challenge to the investigation.

Nattapong’s wife recounted the events leading up to the shooting. She stated that she and her husband were alone at home when he went to the cattle shed to relax.

Shortly after, she heard a loud noise and rushed outside to find him collapsed and bleeding profusely on the shed floor. Initially mistaking the noise for a phone explosion, she called a friend for assistance in taking Nattapong to the hospital, only realising later that he had been shot.

Songkhla shooting

Reports indicate that Nattapong’s mother and stepfather are members of the local administrative organisation in Ratphum. Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting may have been motivated by two main factors: Disputes over land transactions within the family and a provocative social media post directed at a man from the village.

The isolated location of the cattle shed and the house, surrounded by rubber plantations and distant from other residences, complicates evidence collection. Witnesses have only reported hearing a single gunshot. The assailant is believed to have approached the scene on foot with the intent to kill Nattapong.

Fortunately, the bullet missed critical areas, leaving him with severe but non-fatal injuries, allowing him to survive the attack, reported KhaoSod.

Police are intensifying their efforts to gather witness testimonies and evidence to identify and apprehend the perpetrator or any individuals potentially involved in the case. The investigation remains ongoing, with further questioning of relevant parties anticipated as part of the process.
