CINCINNATI (WKRC) – As JD Vance becomes vice president-elect, Gov. Mike DeWine must fill his empty Senate seat.
The appointee will serve only until November 2026 when a special election will be held.
The person chosen will then serve out the remainder of Vance’s term, which expires two years later.
Names floated to replace Vance include former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, Jane Timken, who chaired the Ohio Republican Party and ran for Senate in 2022, state Sen. Matt Dolan, who lost to Bernie Moreno in this year’s GOP primary, and Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose.
Vance was asked who he thought would fill his Senate seat if he were to win when he voted in Cincinnati on Tuesday. He said he was far too superstitious to think of these things.
