2. Prosecution: Singh lied to the COP that he did not know Loh Pei Ying was going to testify
Mr Ang suggested to Singh that he lied to the Committee on Privileges (COP) when he said he did not know Khan’s former party aide Loh Pei Ying would testify about it.
Singh disagreed.
He had said in court the day before that he had been incorrect in what he told the COP and that he had in fact known since 29 November 2021 that Loh would testify, days before the COP opened proceedings on 2 December.
The prosecution had previously argued that because Singh knew Loh and Khan would testify, he chose on 30 November 2021 to hold a press conference about Khan’s lies. The press conference was held on 2 December, the same day the COP began its proceedings.
On November 8, 2024, Mr Ang said: “You have told the court that in fact: ‘I knew on November 29, 2021, I knew that Loh would testify before the COP’, you told the court that yesterday, right?”
Singh replied, “Yes. Later I came to find out.”
Mr Ang then asked him what his position was, to which Singh said: “I think the final position is quite clear. I did not remember the series of messages that Peiying and Mike were informed about…
“I think I was on my 7th or 8th hour at the COP. I forgot that detail. I have no difficulty sharing with this court that it was an oversight on my part.”
Mike Lim is another WP cadre who sent a message to Singh on 29 November 2021 to tell him that Khan and Loh had been called to testify at the COP.
Mr Ang continued to press Singh when he knew Loh was testifying. “I’m asking you starting November 29, 2021.”
Singh replied: “You see Mr Ang, I have already answered that…
“I have, as you can see from the police statement, I had received the message, I’m not going to deny it.”
