Ice causing road problems in Lincoln County

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reported on Facebook that Interstate 29 and other roads are slippery in parts of the county, ice and other weather are causing problems.

The sheriff’s office reported a jack-knifed semi north of the Canton exit. There is also a rollover crash south of Harrisburg on South Dakota Highway 115.

Two crashes were reported near Beresford at about 8 p.m.

Drivers are advised to slow down.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation reported on 511 at 8:51 p.m. Friday that road conditions on I-29 from the Iowa state line to Sioux Falls were slippery with reduced speed. Actual road conditions may vary from this report. Motorists were cautioned to be alert to changing conditions. At 7:40 p.m., the SD DOT reported that I-29 from I-229 in Sioux Falls to SD 115 at Dell Rapids Exit 98 was slippery with reduced speed. I-29 from the SD115 exit to Brookings was dry.

Many highways have slippery conditions south of Sioux Falls to the Iowa border and west to South Dakota Highway 19, according to the SD DOT. Road conditions can vary on those highways was well, SD DOT said.

The Iowa Department of Transportation posted on Facebook at about 8:30 p.m. that many roads in northwestern and western Iowa were slick and described travel as hazardous. This includes the areas near Sioux Center and Le Mars down toward Omaha.

KELOLAND meteorologists said a wintry mix of light freezing rain, sleet, and snow will affect southeastern KELOLAND Friday night and Saturday morning.
