Deadly crash, icy roads, lock your doors

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — It’s Saturday, December 14. Here’s everything you need to know for news and weather with KELOLAND On The Go.

Police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash in Sioux Falls.


The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reported on Facebook that Interstate 29 and other roads are slippery in parts of the county, ice and other weather are causing problems. Two crashes were reported near Beresford at about 8 p.m.


The Sioux Falls Police Department is reminding people to not leave their cars running and unattended amid increased reports of stolen vehicle. Six vehicles were reported stolen Friday morning.


Drug overdose deaths have dropped 17% in the U.S. in just one year, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Angela Kennecke with Emily’s Hope attributes that to narcan use.


Saturday is the local Salvation Army’s annual $20 Challenge, when a donation of $20 is matched by a $100 donation. A 92-year-old Sioux Falls woman will drop more than $2,000 into a red kettle Saturday.

A winter weather advisory remains in place until 10 am CST Saturday for northeastern portions of South Dakota, with the same advisory lasting until 12 pm CST for southeastern SD, southwestern MN, and northwestern IA. Additional icing is possible due to freezing drizzle/fog that lingers into the morning.
