A horrifying incident unfolded when a gigantic tree branch unexpectedly crashed into a car, severely damaging the vehicle as it travelled along a road. The mishap occurred at 12.30pm yesterday, December 16, leaving the car’s roof caved in and the windshield shattered.
The driver, identified as 56 year old Dan Dusit Prananon, a lecturer at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, sustained injuries and was rushed to Sai Noi Hospital. The accident took place on Pathum-Bang Len Road, in the inbound lane towards Bang Len district, Sai Noi, Nonthaburi province.
Upon receiving the report, Police Lieutenant Decharit Saengjunsri from Sai Noi Station, along with Ruamkatanyu Foundation volunteers and the Khlong Kwang Subdistrict Administration Organisation’s protective services, promptly arrived at the scene. They found a bronze Toyota Cross, license plate 3ขบ 4669 Bangkok, parked on the shoulder of the road.
The vehicle had suffered significant damage with a collapsed roof, a broken front windshield, and a snapped left side mirror. Dusit Prananon was already transported to the hospital, having sustained lacerations on his face and mouth.
Located around 60 metres from the damaged car, a 10-metre long tree branch with a diameter of 12 inches lay across the third lane of the road. The branch had fallen due to strong winds, leading to this unfortunate event.
Witness Pattanachai Wanthapthim, a 50 year old man, who was driving a pickup truck behind the car, shared his account of the accident. He described seeing the tree swaying in the wind, causing a large branch to break off and strike the barrier in the road’s central reservation.
This caused the branch to swing around, landing directly on the car’s roof, resulting in significant damage. Despite head injuries and bleeding, Dusit remained conscious and communicative. Pattanachai mentioned that Dusit was a patient who required blood-thinning medication but seemed stable upon hospital admission, reported KhaoSod.
Anulak Boonrod, a 42 year old man, from the Khlong Kwang Subdistrict Administration Organisation’s protective services, stated that they received an alert about the fallen tree branch affecting passing vehicles. In response, a team of five officials arrived at the scene with two chainsaws to clear the large branch from the road.
