Karate Kid 6’s Director Teases How Jackie Chan’s Mr. He fits into the Miyagi-verse, and I didn’t expect this answer

It might have been hard to hear that Netflix’s best shows, Cobra Kais, the sixth season will be its last. However, this does not mean that this will be the last we see of Daniel LaRusso or Jackie Chanis mr. He for that matter. With the sixth film in the franchise Karate Kid: Legends When I got to the theater this summer, I was officially blown away when I found out how the character Mr. He fits into the Miyagi-verse.

When The Karate Kid remake only came in 2010, I assumed this would be its own franchise then Daniel was renamed Dre (played by Jaden Smith) and he learned Kung Fu in China from Jackie Chan’s Mr. He. But after that it was announced that a new The Karate Kid movie would unite the old franchise with the newwith Jackie Chan reprising his iconic role, that must mean there’s a connection to bring back Dre’s instructor. If you’re curious about how much of a connection Mr. Han has to the Miyagi-verse, Karate Kid: Legends director Jonathan Entwistle answers that question EW and prepare to have your mind blown like mine:

Without giving too much away, I can say that Mr. He and Mr. Miyagi is the connection to Daniel. The Han family and the Miyagi family are connected all the way back to ancient times. And there is a mention of this within the Karate Kid movie canon for those people who want to look for it.

Hold the phone — when Mr. He? the The Karate Kid films? Do I have to watch all the movies again to find the answer? I am really curious about the story between Mr. He and Mr. Miyagi. After all, Mr. Han taught Kung Fu to Dre and Mr. Miyagi taught Daniel karate. But Cobra Kai has done a great job of updating or introducing the concepts of the previous films to the fans through the art of flashbacks. So, something tells me The Karate Kid 6 should do the same to better explain the connection between the two teachers and what tidbit has escaped our minds after all these years.

A couple of years ago, Cobra Kai manager Jon Hurwitz clarified connection between his popular Netflix series and the new one The Karate Kid Film would not focus on the series’ actors. While the young actors may have reached their conclusion in the upcoming series finale, Ralph Macchio is involved in the martial arts drama film shows that the story of Daniel LaRusso is not over yet. Jonathan Entwistle continues to talk about how upcoming 2025 movie will connect to Cobra Kai:

I’ve been a huge fan of Cobra Kai since the beginning, and that’s one of the reasons I found this to be such an exciting project. I was excited about the idea that the movies and the series could all be part of a family. I’ve had some really detailed conversations with the Cobra Kai team about just cool things that we can do in the movie and be able to make it all feel holistic. And obviously Ralph is really, really close to it after all these years on Cobra Kai, and they’ve been involved in small steps along the way. Everything we talked about made it into the movie in one way or another, either through Ralph or through the conversations. We’re really excited to have added another piece to the overall universe.

The Karate Kid the cast returns Cobra Kai over three decades later successfully brought together fans of the old and new generations. Sony’s interesting plot of the sixth film follows Bejing-based teenager Li Fong, who moves to New York City with his mother only to be drawn into fights at school. When a new friend of his needs help, Han enlists Daniel LaRusso to help Li Fong merge Kung Fu and karate to help him win a tournament.

The Karate Kid 6The summary leaves me with many questions such as how Mr. He and Daniel know each other and were Mr. Miyagi fits into this. Now I’m curious about whether Cobra KaiThe ending scene will feature a teaser that ties in with Mr. He and the future The Karate Kid film.

I would never have guessed that Mr. His connection to the Miyagi-verse was somehow mentioned in the franchise. This is a head scratcher, but I’m sure all will be revealed when Karate Kid: Legends has a theatrical release on May 30. Before you see Daniel and Mr. He shares the big screen together, you can see Ralph Macchio’s memorable character say his Netflix farewell in Cobra Kai: Part Three coming to your Netflix subscription on February 13.
