Budget travellers, rejoice! Thai AirAsia X is ramping up its services, connecting Bangkok and Delhi with four weekly flights starting January 15, 2025. The move comes as the airline capitalises on surging demand from Indian flyers, driven by visa-free travel perks and enhanced connectivity.

The carrier, which operates A330 planes, marked its return to the Indian capital on Sunday, December 15.

Thai AirAsia X’s CEO, Tassapon Bijleveld, confirmed the expansion yesterday, citing the recently upgraded bilateral Air Service Agreement between India and Thailand. This deal boosts weekly seat quotas by 7,000, with a potential to double to 14,000 seats in the future.

“We are seeing rising demand in the international sector, supported by measures like visa-free entry, which have made travel more accessible and cost-effective.”

From January, flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, up from the current two weekly services.

The airline is betting big on connecting flights via Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok, one of its key hubs.

“With Don Mueang as one of our four key fly-thru hubs, Thai AirAsia X is strategically positioned to offer seamless, value-driven connectivity for Indian travellers to Thailand and across AirAsia’s network of over 130 destinations.”

Thai AirAsia X expects to capture 20% of onward travel demand from Indian passengers heading to other countries. Its fleet of 370-seat, all-economy A330 planes ensures low-cost yet comfortable options for long-haul journeys.

Meanwhile, its sister airline, Thai AirAsia, operates shorter routes with A320 planes and services 12 Indian cities, proving the group’s robust foothold in the region, reported The Economic Times.
