After months and months of leaks and rumors, the Juun.J x Puma Speedcat collaboration has finally landed. And while we were just waiting a sneakers to release, the Jung Wook-jun helmet label has blessed us with two of them and we couldn’t be happier.
If you didn’t already know, the Speedcat was first released in 99. Earlier this year, Puma celebrated the silhouette’s big 25th birthday by bringing it back in a bunch of sick colorways. And while most of these were very bright and vibrant and poppy (just take a look at “Whisper of Pink”, for reference), the South Korean menswear brand’s approach is as stealthy as it gets.
Unveiled in both low and mid-top versions, the Juun.J has swapped out the Speedcat’s classic suede upper for a full leather one instead. The German sportswear company’s signature Formstip hits the lateral and medial sidewalls, but rather than being sewn on (as usual), it’s sort of cut into the material itself, resulting in a super-futuristic vibe.
Down south you’ll find a rubber midsole that’s actually inspired by the tires you’d find on a ridiculously fast sports car. Although it may seem a bit random at first, it has been done on purpose. Why? Well, when the Speedcat was introduced back then, it was a motorsport trainer designed for racing drivers. In fact, even the heel has been bent slightly so you can change pedals without drama.
The sneakers are then finished off with tons of logos throughout (similar to a racing driver’s jacket), and the Speedcat Mid is fitted with an ankle strap to keep everything locked in place.
The Juun.J x Puma Speedcat collection is available now at Juun.J, and is expected to release at Puma and selected retailers globally within the next few weeks.
