Govt Proposes New Name for Mbudzi Interchange

During a post-cabinet media briefing on Tuesday, Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere announced that the interchange, currently under construction at the intersection of Simon Mazorodze, Chitungwiza, and High Glen roads, would be renamed Trabablas Interchange.

Minister Muswere explained that the new name is intended to honour the “visionary leadership” of President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.

The interchange replaces the previously congested roundabout at the intersection, a notorious bottleneck during morning and evening peak hours.

Public Reactions: “It Will Always Be Mbudzi”

Many Zimbabweans were unimpressed by the proposed name change, with some mocking the decision and questioning its relevance in light of more pressing national concerns. Social media was abuzz with comments ridiculing the choice of “Trabablas” and expressing a preference for the familiar name, “Mbudzi.”

Here’s what some had to say:

@AkiNotFromTroy:

Haaa pa mbudzi hapachinje zita rasta…izvezvi hapasina mbudzi dzacho asi panongonzi pa mbudzi

@nashe_em:

This is nonsense 😆🤣
It already has an indigenous name. Why change it from Mbudzi?
Same thing you did with changing Angwa Street when we already have a river with that name making it local.

@Svosve_Mukange:

Rasta, isu tichangoramba tichiti PaMbudzi sezvatinongoita 4th Street hatimboidaidza kuti Simon Vengasai Muzenda Street. Iri rekuti Trabablas mucharidaidza mega ne mhuri dzenyu!!

@AnythingButBee:

Cabinet kugara pasi and discuss about that. I mean Cabinet Cabinet. I would have thought there are bread and butter issues like the coming drought, effects of taxes but mafunga kutaura about name change
