The Nebraska Cornhuskers will play next season’s opener against the Cincinnati Bearcats at GEHA Field at Arrowhead, the two schools and the Chiefs revealed on Monday.

The game will take place on Thursday, August 28 and the time will be announced at a later date.

The contest was originally set for Cincinnati’s Nippert Stadium.

A move to the Indianapolis Colts‘ home field Lucas Oil Stadium was scheduled before the most recent change to Kansas City.

The Cornhuskers and Bearcats also revealed they have moved the date of a previously set matchup in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The squads will now face each other on September 10, 2033, after previously being scheduled to play in 2023.

“Opening the 2025 season at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium is an incredible chance to showcase Bearcats football in one of the NFL‘s most iconic venues,” Cincinnati athletic director John Cunningham said.

“This game is a unique opportunity that not only significantly benefits the program financially but also puts the Bearcats in the national spotlight.

“This matchup reflects our commitment to thinking big and maximizing possibilities for our program in the ever-changing college athletics landscape.”

This will be the second-ever matchup between Nebraska and Cincinnati.

The Cornhuskers beat the Bearcats by a score of 41-0 in 1906.

Cincinnati is coming off a 5-7 season which was led by second-year head coach Scott Satterfield.

Nebraska, meanwhile, finished the 2024 campaign 6-6.

They will take on the Boston College Eagles in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl on December 28.

The 2025 game between the Bearcats and Cornhuskers will be played at the home stadium of the nine-time Pro Bowler Kelce, who is an alumnus of Cincinnati.

He played there from 2008-12.

In his last collegiate season, Kelce set personal season highs in receptions (45), receiving yards (722), yards per reception (16.0), and receiving touchdowns (8).

It’s possible the 35-year-old can attend the August 28th game between the two colleges.
