A tragic accident occurred yesterday when a truck driver failed to notice a colleague standing in front of the vehicle, resulting in a fatal incident on a construction site in Lopburi. The victim was struck and run over by the large truck, leading to his death.
Officer Pariya Saengwarach, from Khok Tum Police Station, was alerted to the tragic event that took place yesterday, December 18, on a construction road in the Khok Tum area of Lopburi. Arriving at the scene alongside volunteer rescue workers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, the team found the incomplete road being prepared with laterite soil.
A white Hino truck from a local company, with registration numbers 82-4577 and 82-4745 from Lopburi, was parked at the site. The driver, 26 year old Sakon, was waiting for police officials at the location.
The right rear wheel of the truck had tragically run over 65 year old Bamrung, from Mueang Chai Nat district. Rescue workers had to carefully extract his body for examination.
Sakon explained that both he and the deceased worked together. He recounted that they were delivering laterite soil from their company and upon reaching the destination, he asked Bamrung to step out to take photographs for the company.
While the soil was being dumped, Sakon failed to notice Bamrung standing in front of the truck. As he drove forward and lifted the dump bed, the front of the truck hit Bamrung, causing him to fall.
KhaoSod reported that the front wheel ran over him, followed by the rear wheel, which resulted in immediate death. Despite the frantic shouting from workers nearby, it was too late to prevent the accident, lamented Sakon.
“I didn’t see Bamrung in front of the truck when I moved forward. It all happened so fast.”
Police initially sent Bamrung’s body to Narai Maharaj Hospital for an autopsy. Meanwhile, Sakon was taken into custody for further investigation.
Police conducted alcohol and drug tests on him to determine his condition at the time of the incident. He faces charges of reckless driving causing death, and legal proceedings will follow.
