Police in Myanmar successfully rescued a 78 year old businessman who had been abducted outside a currency exchange shop. The dramatic operation resulted in a shootout, leaving six suspects dead and significant evidence uncovered. The victim, who had not eaten since his capture, was found safe.
The incident occurred at 6am on December 13, when Yan Tin Chan was kidnapped near the KBZ Bank 2 branch, just 70 metres from the Tachileik Police Station, in the Mae Khong village area of Tachileik, Myanmar. The police, using CCTV footage, tracked the kidnappers’ route, which led them to a house in the Pa Sak area.
Yesterday evening, December 18, a special task force raided the house to arrest the suspects. A gunfight ensued, resulting in the deaths of all six suspects.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the businessman was confined in a room within the house. He was rescued unharmed but stated that he had not eaten since the day of his abduction.
Among the items seized were a .380 calibre handgun, an M-16 rifle, 21 rounds of ammunition, two bulletproof vests, six sets of vehicle licence plates, and 65,000 methamphetamine pills. Documents identifying two of the deceased suspects as Chan Biang and Maung Maung Oo were also found. One of them was identified as a local citizen of Tachileik.
The police emphasised that the swift and effective use of CCTV technology played a crucial role in the successful tracking and apprehension of the kidnappers, reported KhaoSod.
The incident raised concerns among locals about the rising crime rate in Tachileik, including incidents of robbery, kidnapping, and theft. The community is calling for urgent and thorough action from the police to investigate and prevent further criminal activities in the area.
