A French bulldog has left the internet hysterical with his melodramatic reaction to getting his nails trimmed.
Syd (@sydredhead) shared the hysterical footage of Jumbalaya Jones, a blue brindle French bulldog who is named after the alien from Lilo & Stitch, yowling as his nails were trimmed. The footage garnered 218,000 likes and 1.2 million views on TikTok.
“Jumba went viral recently for a video of him yelping dramatically in the back of the vet’s office while getting a routine nail clipping. He is well known at the vet for his dramatic flair but sweet demeanor. He is also notorious for screaming before the nail clipper even touches his paw,” Syd, who preferred not to share her last name, from Las Vegas, Nevada, told Newsweek.
After showing the owner’s laughter at their dog’s crying, the video reveals the pooch, with freshly trimmed nails, being led to them on a leash.
“Hi,” his mom cooed as Jumba entered the room.
To keep your Frenchie’s feet healthy and comfortable, it is recommended to trim their nails every 3 to 4 weeks. This prevents overgrowth, which can cause discomfort or difficulty when the dog places its paw flat on the ground.
Though Jumba has been through worse ordeals than nail trimming, he is a survivor of Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), a condition that commonly affects French bulldogs.
IVDD involves the degeneration of intervertebral discs, leading to herniation and compression of the spinal cord.
Symptoms can range from pain and partial paralysis to more severe outcomes requiring surgery. French bulldogs are at a higher risk due to their breed-specific predisposition for both cervical and thoracolumbar IVDD.
The 6-year-old pooch still suffers from back pain and faces the risk of another IVDD flare-up, which could lead to further surgery, paralysis, or, in the worst-case scenario, the loss of his life.
“Jumbalaya Jones did in fact survive the trauma of having his nails clipped and enjoyed a warrior’s pup cup after the ordeal. In Jumba we trust,” Syd captioned the post.
Social media users were left hysterical by the Frenchie’s dramatic reaction and related to the loud cries.
“As a tech I can say they make these noises before the claws are even being trimmed,” said one viewer.
“I work with dogs. There is nothing more distinctive than a Frenchie’s scream,” said Ef.
“Glad he didn’t overreact,” joked Amanda Marie.
Jumba is a loving, friendly, and ridiculous goofball who adores cuddles, cheese, and being his most dramatic self.
“The responses from people across social media have been incredible. People are loving how funny and dramatic our kiddo is, and we are so overjoyed at the happiness and laughter he is bringing to people,” Syd said.
“We hope that our couch king continues to fight and make a positive impact on the world by creating more laughter and smiles. We are praying for 6 more years with our buddy!”
