After Juan Soto signed with the New York Mets, his former team has a chance for some payback.

The New York Yankees are in search of a new first baseman, and while Pete Alonso would be a good fit in the Bronx, one talk show host is hearing the complete opposite.

“They’re not going to sign somebody for multiple, long-time years to stick at first base, that’s what I heard,” said Rich Eisen on his talk show Wednesday afternoon. He followed it up a few minutes later by stating “I’ve been told the Yankees have zero interest in Pete Alonso.”

Kevin Hickey of Sporting News believes this checks out as a result of some other positions the Yankees would like address.

“Given that the Yankees still need to find either a second or third baseman (Jazz Chisholm would fill the other role) and potentially another corner outfielder, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the front office went a bit cheaper,” wrote Hickey.

It’s tough to see the Yankees going for another outfielder after trading for Bellinger with Jasson Dominguez still in the picture. While general manager Brian Cashman may not want to pay Alonso as much as he’s worth, it’s hard to see there being “zero interest.”

Zero interest in a four-time All-Star, really? Who does Eisen’s source think he’s fooling?

Alonso may not be the priority at first base for the Bronx Bombers, but to say there is zero interest is asinine.
