There has been a lone wolf terror attack at a Christmas Market in Magdeburg, Germany.
A car drove right into a crowd of Christmas shoppers.
Two persons have been killed in the attack which included a child.
More than sixty people have been injured in the terror attack.
A Saudi national has been arrested at the scene. The Police and anti-terror units have started an investigation into the incident.
A black BMW plunged into a busy Christmas market in Magdeburg which resulted in two fatalities and over sixty injured. Police have stated that 15 of the injured are in critical condition.
The car which was moving at a very high speed ploughed into the crowd travelling 400 meters towards the town hall.
There was chaos all around with people scrambling to save their lives. An eyewitness compared the scene to a war zone with blood covering the road and the injured receiving medical attention.
Several videos were circulating in social media which showed the moments before and the aftermath of the attack.
One video showed the driver of the vehicle identified as 50-year-old Taleb A lying on the ground beside his wrecked vessel.
A Police Officer can be seen a few meters away from the suspect with his weapons drawn. Soon the Police officers closed in to arrest the suspect.
The suspect Taleb A is a Saudi Arabian national who has been residing in Germany since 2006. He was a Doctor and consultant in psychiatry and psychotherapy.
The motive behind the attack is not clear but Police have confirmed that he acted alone and has no accomplice.
The attack has shaken the community and while the immediate threat has been neutralized there is an air of fear and trepidation and local officials are promising additional security for the upcoming events.
Who is Taleb A, The Suspect Of Magdeburg Christmas Attack?
Taleb A was born in the Saudi Arabian city of Hofuf in 1974 and got a permanent residence permit for Germany in 2006.
It was also revealed that he is an ex-Muslim and an ardent critic of Islam. He got into trouble in Saudi Arabia with the authorities for his atheist views.
After moving to Germany he also set up a website named wearesaudi.net to help ex-Muslims flee Saudi and other Gulf states.
He is wanted in Saudi Arabia for terrorism charges and smuggling girls from Gulf States to Europe. The extradition request by the Saudi Government was however rejected by Germany.
He is also a supporter of the far-right German political party Alternative for Germany (AfD), which is known for its extreme anti-immigration stance.
He is a resident in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt. It is believed that he had rented the BMW which was used in the attack.
