OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Big smiles and big hugs filled the Siena Francis Shelter House on Sunday afternoon.
Families reunited with their loved ones for the holiday.
“It’s a fresh start for my family to come back into my life,” Charlene Clifton said.
Clifton was reunited with his family on Sunday after being separated for two years.
She has been recovering from addiction for 18 months and is currently staying at the shelter.
“Since I just got out of prison, they help me with clothes, food and shelter,” Clifton said. “They’re also giving me a sobriety program.”
Clifton has been able to get back on his feet through Siena Francis’ Addiction and Recovery Center.
For her and others, Sunday afternoon was a treat to celebrate a milestone.
“People who are here have come a long way to get here,” said Chris Bauer, director of development for the shelter. “Being able to share the holidays with their loved ones means everything to them for where they are in their lives.”
Families got to enjoy some food and even get gifts to give to their children.
The room was filled with Christmas spirit and hope for the likes of Clifton.
“My kids believe in me again and my mother-in-law is coming back into my life,” Clifton said. “Everything just comes back together.”
If you or someone is struggling with addiction and is in need of help, you can find the Siena Francis House at their website.
