WHAT IS ALS?
Lee’s death came just weeks after he was diagnosed with ALS.
The disease is incurable and attacks nerve cells in the brain, spinal cord, and motor neurons.
Symptoms of the disease include stiffness, twitching, and weakness before it leads to speaking and breathing difficulties.
Those who suffer from ALS usually die from respiratory failure.
Officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say most patients who suffer from ALS are between 55 and 75 years old.
The life expectancy ranges between two and five years.
Stats from ALS News Today reveal more than half of all ALS patients live more than three years after they are diagnosed.
