AN EASY question on ITV’s The 1% Club left viewers baffled after 75% of contestants got it wrong.
The game showhosted by a comedian Lee Mackchallenging contestants with increasingly difficult questions until only the top 1% remain.
In the meantime, ITV viewers play along while judging the contestants’ general knowledge.
In a recent episode, a particular math question caught the attention of the web, after it caught three quarters of the contestants.
The contestants were asked: “Which square has the largest total area?”
They were given the opportunity to choose between three different shapes labeled A, B and C.
They had to choose an answer within 30 seconds.
This is how much time contestants are allowed per question.
The question bothered many because it required careful attention to wording, not mathematics.
It asked for the largest square, not the largest shape overall.
When answers B and C are rectangles, the only correct answer was the actual square, which is answer A.
This caused several contestants and viewers to speed up.
One admitted that they first chose the wrong option before reading the question again.
On X – formerly Twitter – one viewer said: “I’ll (not lie) on first instinct, I was wrong too, then I saw the question again.”
The show’s clever phrasing keeps the audience on their toes!
The 1% Club is available to watch on ITVX.
The hardest quiz questions
Would you know the answers to some of television’s toughest questions
- Who wants to be a millionaire – Earlier this year, fans were left upset after what they described as the “worst” issue in the show’s history. Host Jeremy Clarkson asked: “From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Oscar for Best Actress has never been won by a woman whose last name begins with which of these letters?” The multiple choice answers were between G, K, M and W. In the end, and with the £32,000 safe, player Glen had to guess and chose G. It turned out to be correct because Nicole KidmanFrances McDormand and Kate Winslet are among the stars who have won the best actress gong since 2000.
- The 1% club – Viewers of Lee Mack’s popular ITV show remained dumbfounded by a question that also baffled the players. The question went as follows: “Edna’s birthday is April 6th and Jen’s birthday is October 15th, therefore Amir’s birthday must be the Xth of January.” It turns out that the riddle connects the numbers with its position in the sentence, so 6th is the sixth word and 15th is the fifteenth word. Therefore, Amir’s birthday is January 24, which corresponds to the 24th word in the sentence.
- The hunt – The ITV daytime favorite left fans scratching their heads as it vomited one of the most bizarre questions to ever grace the program. One of the questions asked the player: “Someone with night light intolerance should avoid eating what?” The options were – sweetcorn, potatoes, carrots – with Steve choosing sweetcorn but the correct answer being potatoes.
