Police are investigating three attempted bank robberies in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Police are investigating a series of attempted bank robberies around Lincoln over the weekend.

Officers were first called to the Cornhusker Bank near 34th Street and Old Cheney Road on Saturday just before 11 p.m. Surveillance video showed a silver Toyota Sienna minivan drive through around 10 p.m.

The driver, who was seen wearing a white hat, white mask and puffy silver fur, stared at the ATM before leaving, police said. About 45 minutes later, two people approached the ATM and opened it with a key, but no money was taken.

One suspect was seen wearing a white Lakers hat, white mask, black hoodie with the word “Ecko” on it, black pants and white shoes; the other was seen wearing a blue hoodie, white mask, black Reebok coat, gray pants and black Puma slides.

Officers then responded to another attempted burglary at the Cornhusker Bank near 84th and O streets a little after 11:30 p.m. Surveillance video shows a man in dark clothing being dropped off by a driver in a silver or gray van nearby before approaching an ATM and opening it with a key. Again no money was taken.

Police said the suspects were able to open the ATM at both locations, but were unable to get into the machines’ safes.

A few hours later around 2:30 a.m., officers were called to a broken glass alarm at the U Pull It near North 70th Street and Fletcher Avenue. The front glass door had been smashed and a blue zip tie was found wrapped around an ATM near the door.

Surveillance video showed a white Chevy pickup truck with a broken passenger taillight backed into the front door before someone entered the building and wrapped the strap around the ATM. The truck driver took off but the tow strap came off. No money was taken in this case either.

The suspect at U Pull It was seen wearing a black coat, khaki pants, black ski boots and gloves, according to police.

No injuries were reported in the first two cases, but damage to the broken front door at U Pull It was estimated at $8,000.

No arrests have been made in either case and police are still working to determine if they are related at all.
