Colin Jost and Michael Che’s annual “joke exchange” on SNL’s Christmas edition took a personal turn and left both the studio audience and the Internet in stitches.
Scarlett Johansson made a surprise appearance on the latest episode of Saturday Night Live (SNL), alongside her husband, Colin Jost, during the show’s Weekend Update segment. What followed was a series of jaw-dropping jokes that left the Black Widow star visibly shocked and the audience in splits.
During the Christmas edition’s “joke exchange,” in which Jost and co-anchor Michael Che write tough jokes for each other, Jost found himself at the center of some awkward — and funny — moments.
“I want to dedicate the next joke to my boo, Scarlett Johansson,” Jost began, reading from the teleprompter as cameras caught Johansson nervously watching from backstage. “She just celebrated her 40th birthday, which means I’m about to get up. out of there,” Jost joked, prompting laughter from the audience.
The jokes only got bolder as Jost continued. “We just had a baby together, and you haven’t seen any pictures of him yet, because he’s black as hell!” he said as a photoshopped image of the couple and a dark skinned baby flashed on the screen.
Just when Jost thought the feature was over, another joke appeared on the teleprompter. Reluctantly, he read: “Costco has taken their roast beef sandwich off their menu, but I’m not tripping. I’ve had roast beef every night since my wife had the baby.”
The risqué punchline caused an outburst of laughter in the studio. At the same time Johansson, caught on camera, mouthed “Oh my God”, over and over again in disbelief and laughter.
