Miami Dolphins need a major rebuild starting at the top, Tyreek Hill wants to leave and Tua’s future is in doubt

THE Miami Dolphins are a dumpster fire, and recent events have only further proved it.

For a team that hasn’t won a playoff game since 2000, the Dolphins don’t seem especially desperate to change their fortunes.

There are plenty of teams in the NFL that are consistently laughing stock for their poor performance year after year.

The New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, and Chicago Bears are just a few to name, but their fates aren’t any worse than those of the Dolphins.

Both the Jets and Bears made their conference championship games during the 2010s and the Browns’ most recent playoff win came in 2021.

Sure, Miami made the playoffs in 2022 and 2023 with one of the best offenses in the NFL, but they didn’t do anything with those playoff berths.

They lost in the first round in both of those years and set a stigma of being soft and unable to play in cold weather.

Now, after securing their first losing record since 2019, things appear to be falling apart in Miami.

Superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill appears to be forcing himself out of the organization after missing the playoffs for the first time in his career.

Super Bowl-winning cornerback Jalen Ramsey is seemingly following suit.

Add on multiple key players hitting free agency in the offseason and things look particularly dire for the Dolphins in 2025.

The team finished with an 8-9 record this season and it is entirely possible that things only get worse next season.

Changes need to be made within the organization, and that doesn’t only mean fielding a better roster. It means making necessary decisions within the front office.

Some Dolphins executives have held their positions for far too long without producing any results to show for it.

The man who is most guilty of this is general manager Chris Grier.

Grier has been with the Dolphins organization since the 2000 season, taking over as general manager in 2016.

The team has made the playoffs three times with him as GM and obviously hasn’t won a playoff game in any of those years.

Grier also has a track record of being incapable of properly evaluating talent in the draft.

He made the mistake of drafting Tua Tagovailoa at No. 5 in the 2020 draft and let Justin Herbert go to the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 6.

In their careers, Herbert has over 5,000 more passing yards and 37 more touchdowns than Tua.

He also has 800 more rushing yards and seven more rushing touchdowns than Tua.

The two quarterbacks have played the same amount of seasons in the NFL.

Among the other mistakes Grier made was prematurely handing out a contract extension to head coach Mike McDaniel.

After back-to-back playoff berths in his first two years, McDaniel’s offense looked much worse this season, but he is locked into a deal until 2028.

With all of these mistakes, it seems crazy that Grier still has a job, which leads to the biggest issue with the Dolphins: ownership.

Stephen Ross pumps money into the Dolphins, but it seems he cannot make proper football decisions.

Grier should have been fired years ago but is instead going to hold on to his job in 2025.

The owner cost the team a first-round draft pick after tampering with Tom Brady while he was under contract with another team.

Mistake after mistake has kept the Dolphins in purgatory for the last 25 years, and it doesn’t look like it is going to get better any time soon.

So what can be done to fix the team? In all honesty, the Dolphins should blow it up and start over.

They failed to tank for Joe Burrow in 2019, maybe they can make up for it and tank for a prospect like Arch Manning in 2025 or 2026.

Miami should start with front office firings. Ross more than likely won’t ever sell the team so changes need to be made around him.

Grier and anyone around him should be shown to the door in favor of a new, progressive front office.

The team’s coaching staff should be cleared out too. Fire McDaniel and promote the defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver to head coach.

Anyone who has value should probably be traded as well. Tua can’t stay on the field and probably needs to be cut if no team will trade for him.

The Dolphins need to start over, and that needs to happen as soon as possible.
