A LOTTERY player overcame one-in-a-trillion odds to win two massive cash prizes worth nearly $1million within a few days.
The player, who chose to remain anonymous, managed to win big twice in the Connecticut Lottery – and he purchased the tickets in the same place.
The lottery player managed to net a total of $950,000 within four days with the Connecticut Lottery[/caption]
The odds of doing this are thought to be a trillion-to-one[/caption]
On December 31, 2024, the lucky lotto player claimed a $200,000 prize from Cash Royale, bought at the Citgo in Colchester.
This alone was a chance of one in 675,000, and the player bought it for $20.
Then, on January 3, 2025, the same person went to the same Citgo and walked away with $750,000 from a $1,000,000 JUMBO CASH ticket.
According to a lottery spokesperson, the odds of winning the top prize in this game are 1 in 1.3 million.
This netted the player a respectable $950,000 in the space of four days.
This double-win has shocked mathematicians, but they say it might not be as uncommon as it seems.
Iddo Ben-Ari, a University of Connecticut mathematics professor who specializes in probability, said: “The chance of this happening to me or to you is completely unlikely but the chance of this happening to someone, anyone throughout history, is actually pretty high.
“That’s exactly what happened here, it’s a rare thing, but it will keep happening again and again.”
It is thought that the recent holiday season saw a spike in lottery wins, as more people were buying tickets.
The Connecticut Lottery reported that last week was a big week for lottery players, as 18 players won a prize of $10,000 or more during the first week of 2025.
The largest Connecticut Lottery win in 2024 was when a resident from Windsor Locks walked away with the $3million “Fortune” prize in September.
AN UNCLAIMED MILLION
There are games all over the country that have been unclaimed, leaving the winners without the cash they won.
A Powerball player from Illinois scooped the $1 million prize last year but has still not come forward, officials have revealed.
