Producer Suzana Ghai is happy with the inspirational journey that her show on Colors, Mangal Lakshmi has seen over the last year. Launched in February 2024, the show recently completed one year since it went on the floor. The show is the top-rated show on the channel. Despite being at the time slot of 9 PM (the highly competitive slot wherein Star Plus’ Udne Ki Aasha has had a great run, becoming the top-rated show), Mangal Lakshmi has held its ground and has been a threatening force for the last many months. The show has been raking in good ratings even in the one-hour slot provided by the channel.
We at IWMBuzz.com talked to Producer Suzana Ghai (Panorama Entertainment), on Mangal Lakshmi’s accomplishment in the year 2024.
She says, “Mangal Lakshmi has been a great show and one of the most appreciated shows of last year. I am grateful that the audience has accepted this show because when the show launched, there was a murmur that this was a copy. But the audiences sampled it and warmly accepted this show and realized how different a story of two sisters can also be told. The flavour and tone of the show are different. We were aware of it when we got into it. We are happy that the audience latched on to it. Wherever I go, people talk about how they love Mangal Lakshmi. That’s the biggest recognition for a maker.”
She goes on to say, “We have succeeded in the way we wanted Mangal and Lakshmi’s character to set. We have tried a lot of fresher things as the story moved. For example, Mangal’s mother-in-law’s character worked well for us. It is always a great thing when people hook on to something that is fresh and different yet relatable.”
Talking about the one-year journey and how the show has established a mark of its own, Suzana says “One of the biggest things for me is the way I saw Mangal’s character. Though the basic premise was taken from Bhagyalakshmi, a show from Colors Kannada, we made it our show and developed our characters. The biggest joy for me was that Mangal’s character was accepted so well. I wanted her to be that housewife who is sitting and watching my show, who also has aspirations and at the same time, wants to tell her own story. She is the character who will not always speak out and lash out at people, with her strength being in her silence.”
“This is how my journey of one year with Mangal Lakshmi has been. I thank the Colors team for giving me this beautiful opportunity to make this show. We look forward to bigger things in the coming future,” ends the Producer.
