Maya does strength training regularly

Speaking of her regular reformer pilates sessions with Maya, Marsha reminded us that these are in addition to the strength training sessions Maya does with a PT. These sessions help strengthen her muscles, “drive” her weight-based exercises and “prevent injury”. The two — strength and Pilates — work together to create a “stronger build for Maya to reach her goals,” Marsha confirmed.

And do Reform Pilates at least twice a week

As for how often Maya does reform Pilates, Marsha shared that Maya has a “busy schedule,” concluding that not every week is the same, but Marsha added that twice-weekly sessions are recommended for muscle memory and to see results. That said, she shared that consistency is key — if you can only do one lesson per week, do it. On the contrary, if five days a week is possible, that’s cool too – “there are no limits to Pilates,” advises Marsha.

The type of reformer class Maya make also varies. Each session at Nobu falls under one of three categories: Power, Precision or Pure. Power uses a springboard at the end of the reformer machine, which Marsha explains gives “a more energetic, fitness-based training‘, while Pure breaks down each movement “including breathing and flexibility”, and Precision focuses on specific muscle groups. “Maya is a good exerciser and enjoys all the workouts,” Marsha reveals, but if she had to choose, “some of the exercises for the upper body is what she wants to work on.’
