Angel Reese’s ex-Chicago Sky teammate breaks silence over rumors she quit WNBA team because of rookie superstar

FORMER Chicago Sky star Marina Mabrey has addressed speculation that she left the Windy City due to issues with Angel Reese.

Mabrey, 28, was traded to the Connecticut Sun in July but did not disclose the reason behind her departure.

Angel Reese, who enjoyed an impressive WNBA rookie season, asked her ex-team-mate about the rumoured issue in a recent video[/caption]

The point guard claimed that she wanted to play for a team that could win championships after failing to do so with the Sky.

But speculation quickly arose suggesting she left due to the emergence of Reese, who was selected as the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft.

It had also been rumoured that Teresa Weatherspoon’s coaching style contributed to her shock exit.

However, Mabrey dismissed the claims while appearing in a video with her former team-mate.

The duo were both in training for the Unrivaled basketball league when Reese called her over and asked about their time together in Chicago.

The 22-year-old said: “Money Mabrey, I have a conspiracy. People want to know. Marina, did you leave Chicago because of me?”

Mabrey immediately responded: “No,” before adding: “I love Angel, the real ones know.”

Both players will take part in the Unrivaled league starting this month.

Unrivaled is a 3-on-3 women’s basketball league created to provide WNBA players with a domestic alternative to playing overseas during the offseason.

The league features six teams – each with six WNBA players – competing in a compressed full-court format.

The six teams are; Laces, Lunar Owls, Mist, Phantom, Rose and
Vinyl.

All games will be played in Miami, with the semi-finals and Championship scheduled for March.
