Scotland braced for return of snow as weather map reveals 12 INCHES to land during 72-hour whiteout


SCOTS hoping they have finally escaped the winter misery are in for more bad news. It appears the big freeze plaguing the country is not over.

It has been a bone-chilling start to 2025, with Scotland slip-sliding through sub-zero temperatures, ferocious winds, and back-to-back snow and ice warnings.

Some areas will be blasted by heavy flurries[/caption]

But even more winter woes will descend on the nation, with more snowfall and freezing temperatures on the way.

Some parts of Scotland could see up to 12 inches of snowfall every hour as the fresh winter system moves in.

The first dusting of the white stuff will arrive in the northeast later this month.

Tayside, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire will be hit my minor snowfall on Saturday January 25.

But throughout the day, a larger snow system will drift in from the southeast and bring even more flurries.

By the end of January 25, most of Scotland will be covered in snow.

The northeast will see the worst of the weather, with up to 20cm falling every HOUR near Dundee.

Parts of the Central Belt we’ll also be hit by snowfall, with Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Edinburgh, the Lothians and the Borders all being hit.

Things will worsen on Sunday, with more snow blasting Scotland, with up to 27cm falling each hour.

Rain will move in on Sunday to replace the snowfall, but Scots won’t be out of the woods. Freezing temperatures will mean snow will remain on the ground.


The lowlands will only see 1-2cm of snow on the ground byt Aberdeenshire and the Highlands could see up to 18cm remain.

The mercury is set to plummet to -4C over that weekend and into the following week before the weather gets more mild, melting away the snow by Tuesday.

Scots are currently enjoying a short break from winter misery.

Temperatures have been warming slightly, causing less snow and ice to wreak havoc in January.
