Hwange Man Steals Goat, Sells Meat to Its Owner as “Bushbuck”
In a bold and bizarre incident, a man from Hwange stole a goat, slaughtered it, and sold the meat back to its unsuspecting owner, claiming it was bushbuck meat.
Shylock Zulu (28) of Themba Ndlovu Homestead in Mashala Village, Hwange, was arrested and charged with stock theft following the incident.

During the trial, the court heard that on the 8th of January 2025 2025, Zulu stole a black and white male goat from a grazing area in Mashala. belonging to the owner only identified as Thabani
Zulu then slaughtered the said goat and proceeded to Thabani Sibanda’s homestead where he sold the meat from the carcass to the complainant for USD$15. Sibanda lied to Thabani that the meat he was selling was bushbuck meat. The complainant became suspicious that the meat could be from his goat which went missing.
Although the exact details of how he confirmed the theft are unclear, Zulu’s actions eventually led to his arrest and eventual court appearance.
Court Verdict & Sentencing
Zulu was convicted of stock theft and sentenced to six months in prison. Half of the sentence—three months—was suspended on the condition that he does not commit a similar offense within the next five years. The remaining three months were suspended on the condition that Zulu pays Sibanda ZWG$1,057 as restitution for the stolen goat.
