But he stugg;ed during his time in Light Blue[/caption]

But despite playing in more than 200 games across the Premier League, Serie A and La Liga, his short stint in the Scottish Premiership is tinged with regret.

When Philippe Senderos joined Rangers in 2016, the Light Blues had just won promotion back into the top flight.

The Swiss international was 31 and his years of experience with Arsenal, Fulham and AC Milan were seen as a huge bonus to the Ibrox club.

But he couldn’t have endure a worse start in Glasgow, getting sent off on his debut in an Old Firm derby in which he struggled.

Celtic won 5-1 that day with Senderos dismissed in the 75th minute.

In truth, even though it was just one game (and not even a full one) his Gers career never truly recovered from such a disastrous start.

Senderos, 39, has now opened up on how his time at Ibrox was a difficult one for him personally.

He revealed he came into the club with no pre-season and wasn’t quite prepared for the intensity of an Old Firm debut.

Speaking to CasinoHawks, the former defender said: “Thinking about my time at Rangers, I wish it would have gone differently. That’s the main thing.

“It was an unfortunate time at the club and it was a difficult time personally.

“I came into the club without a pre-season and straight away my debut was the Old Firm, then I put in a really bad performance and got sent off.

“There was instability in the club with a change of manager and it was a tough year in my career – but when I reflect back, what a club, an amazing club.

“Ibrox is a great place to play with amazing fans. It’s just the expectation at the time of the squad was way too high.

“I wish it had gone differently, because it was a chance for me to do well, but I’m very proud to have played for Rangers.”

Senderos still keeps and eye on his former club’s results so he’s no stranger to the challenge they face trying to reel in Celtic.

He continued: “Celtic didn’t manage to do ten in a row which was good and Rangers have won a title and are back competing again.

“Celtic have been playing Europe consistently and I think this really helps for the finances of the club and they’re able to recruit better players, that’s the level Rangers need to get to.”
