PFL announce major format change to winner-take-all tournament including huge cash bonus for stars

THE Professional Fighters League are making big changes in 2025.

Formerly, the season would kick off with two qualifying bouts where points were earned per method of victory.

The top four in each division would then proceed into the win-or-go-home play-offs culminating in a series of finale fights.

And season winners would have banked a cumulative $1million from their four bouts in the league that year.

But now, it has switched to a three-stage knockout tournament – with regular season qualifiers dropped.

Instead, it will simply be win and progress, lose and go home, fought over a quarters, semis and then final stage.

Fighters will be paid their standards purses with an extra $500,000 awarded to season winners.

“Everything about PFL is meritocracy. Win and advance, lose and go home,” PFL founder Donn Davis told SunSport.

“We’re not going to sway at all from that. But we’ve been trying to do things to make the format better.

“To make the format more understandable, to make the format and season even shorter so fans can stay with it even more.

“You’ll see some new and interesting stuff on the PFL season.”

The PFL last year acquired Bellator and signed their roster of fighters.

But this year the Bellator brand will be dropped and promoted under the PFL banner.

As well as the new-look tournament format, there will be regular Champions Series events featuring title bouts.

The first round kicks off on April 3, before the semi-finals follow in June setting up the championship finals in August over three events.
