Buenos Aires-based FilmSharks has closed new distribution deals for “I Can’t Live Without You” (“No puedo vivir sin ti”), the latest comedy from Argentina’s most bankable star, Adrián Suar.
Warner Bros. Discovery snagged the rights for Eastern Europe, while New People Film Company secured the rights for the CIS, which includes Russia and the Baltic states, Tanweer for Greece and AV Jet for Taiwan. Distribution rights for France, Germany, Korea, Australia and China are being discussed.
FilmShark subsidiary The Remake Company has also sealed remake deals for the social satire with Italy’s Federation and Mexico’s BH5 with French, German, Chinese and Korean adaptation talks underway.
The latest from the producers of Spain’s reigning #1 comedy “Ocho Apellidos Vascos” (“The Spanish Affair”), the Spanish-Argentine co-production shot in Spain with Santiago Requejo (“Grandfathers”) directing and producing via his 2:59 films . It has flowed on Netflix in the US, Latin America and Spain since August.
Suar (“30 Nights With My Ex,” “A Boyfriend for My Wife”) stars opposite Paz Vega (“Spanglish” “Kill the Messenger”) in this topical comedy in which Suar’s character, Carlos, is a successful businessman whose crazy addiction to his cell phone prompts his wife to give him an ultimatum: the phone or divorce. His efforts to save his marriage led him to sign up for smartphone addiction therapy, but will it be enough?
Ramón Barea (“Everyone Knows”) and Raquel Guerrero (“Alpha Males”) round out the main cast.
The comedy was filmed in various locations across Spain, including Bilbao, Getxo, Santurtzi, Zamudio, Gatika and Madrid, and took advantage of the incentives of the Vizcaya region.
Led by its CEO founder Guido Rud, FilmSharks continues to make new deals internationally. In September, it picked up world sales rights to Sandra Gugliotta’s upcoming “Irremediable,” a dramatic thriller produced by Argentina’s Magma Cine.
Inspired by real events, the drama sheds light on the murky world of illegal adoption, diving deep into secrecy and corruption as it follows a desperate woman willing to risk everything to become a mother.
The international production, sales and distribution outfit also took the world sales rights to the Spanish drama “Samana sunrise“, with blockbuster star Luis Tosar (“Cell 211,” “Sleep Tight”) in October.
After presenting it at Iberseries & Platino Industria in Madrid, FilmSharks has brought the comedy to RioMarket and next AFM in Las Vegas and Film Baazar. Universal Pictures will release the film in Spain on November 8, with Movistar Plus+ taking second-window pay-TV and SVOD rights.
Directed by Rafa Cortés (“Yo”) and based on a play by Jordi Galcerán, its Spanish cast is joined by Chile’s Alfredo Castro (“El Conde”) and Britain’s Charles Dance (“Game of Thrones”).
